New York state could require high-school students to write a research paper in order to graduate, under a proposal being considered by the Board of Regents. If approved, the current plan is for the Regents Research Papers to be at least five pages in length and include no fewer than four sources. The regents are expected to make a decision in September, and the requirement could be in place for this fall's incoming ninth-graders. The Journal News (White Plains, N.Y.)
